The base of cold-process soap
The soap maker selects vegetable oils as a base to ensure the best soap formula, thus creating a balance between the foaming and cleansing properties and the smooth and creamy sensations one would like to experience at the touch of this product.
Each vegetable oil nourishes the skin in a 100% natural way, eliminating the need to add chemicals that disturb the skin's balance. Lastly, natural soap has the distinction of using unheated oils. Heat, in fact, alters the properties of the oil. Therefore, incorporating the oils while "cold" preserves most of their qualities.
The moisturizing super-fats: butters or oils used in the soap
It's the fats or super-fats that give the cold-process soap all of its smoothness, and thus, nourishes, hydrates, and protects our skin. It's the percentage of super-fats that distinguishes an industrial soap bar from a natural soap bar. Industrial soap makers add a tiny percentage, 0,5 to 1% of oil or butter creating this super-fat, for marketing purposes. Natural cold-process soap would contain around 5 to 9% of super-fats that yield all of the necessary hydrating agents to maintain the skin's balance.
Glycerin is an ingredient that is naturally produced during the soap making process. In the industrial process, the glycerin is then removed from the soap for technical and economical reasons; the glycerin is, in fact, sold afterwards at high prices to the beauty industry.
Cold-process soap, on the contrary, retains all this natural glycerin that gives it its hydrating capacity and its smoothing properties. In comparison, cold-process natural soap contains 5 to 8,5% of natural glycerin, while industrial soap contains 0,5 to 1% of added synthetic glycerin, at most.
100% biodegradable natural soap
Natural cold-process soap is 100% biodegradable. It doesn't contain, nor does it emit any synthetic or toxic substances, thus respecting both the skin and the environment.
Natural soap is scented with essential oils, releasing a delicate and unique scent. Industrial soap contains synthetic scents, using, at times, controversial ingredients that may cause harmful effects to the body. The essential oils that are used in our soap are selected by an aroma therapist. Therefore, each product combines the properties of natural soap, as well as those of essential oils, for a unique result.
The colors of the soap only derive from natural clay, plants, or powder extracts.
